It is one of the most popular AI tools on the web with around 13 million daily users.
But ChatGPT has been hit with a major outage this morning, users can’t access the app or website.
According to DownDetector, hundreds of people worldwide have been affected since 8am BST.
OpenAI, the firm behind ChatGPT, acknowledged the outage in a statement saying, “We are currently investigating this matter.”
People took to X (Twitter) to share their frustration at having to ‘think for themselves’ in the absence of an AI tool.

Down Detector receives network status updates from various sources including social media and reports presented on its website.
According to the site, 79 percent of those affected said they had problems with ChatGPT in general.
Meanwhile, others were more specific – 15 percent said they had problems with the app and 6 percent were unable to use the website.
On X, a user said: ‘ChatGPT doesn’t work! How dare they force me to think for myself!!!’
Another person posted: ‘I hit a new low, chatgpt is down and I ran to twitter to check if it was really how it was affecting my life so much.’
Another posted: ‘ChatGPT is down and completely ruining my morning. I really need to stop relying on this thing so much.’
On OpenAI’s official ChatGPT status page, the firm said: ‘ChatGPT is not available for some users.’
He continued: “We are currently investigating this matter.”
MailOnline has contacted OpenAI for further comment about the cause of the outage and how many people have been affected.
With its ability to provide human-like answers to a wide variety of questions, ChatGPT has proven a massive success since it was released in November 2022.
It received an average of 13 million unique visitors per day in January 2023, according to Tooltester.
It comes just weeks after a major Microsoft outage knocked out ChatGPT, Bing.com and DuckDuckGo for thousands of users.
OpenAI confirmed “a partial outage affecting ChatGPT’s web browsing capabilities due to the unavailability of Bing.”
